General Remarks

  • Limit the weight of your luggage to 12 kg for the trek, excl. your daypack.
    We supply a trekking bag which is loaded on the pack horses.
    You can leave extra luggage, fresh clothes and shoes at camp Toilogt
    Note : In general the max. weight of your luggage on international flights is 20 kg.
    max. weight on domestic flights is 10 kg, hand luggage 5 kg (overweight USD 1/kg).
    More luggage, fresh clothes and shoes can be left in Ulaan Baatar.
  • Try to take products packaged in bio-degradable material to avoid generating garbage in the National Park.
  • Try to keep the use of soap as low as possible. Please only use bio-degradable toileteries.

   

1) Trekking shoes: Waterproofed trekking/hiking shoes
We recommend to take sandals or running shoes for the evening .
2) Rain gear: It is mandatory to bring top and bottom wet weather gear ! Goretex material is best. Your rain gear is fixed behind the saddle. An easy and comfortable way to have it handy at all time.
Plastic bags: Pack everything in plastic bags to prevent clothes and sleeping bag to get wet! Also take spare plastic bags. We also recommend to take 1 large garbage bag.
Remark : Plastic bags should not be used to fix equipment on the horse. It is only meant for the equipment that goes on the packhorses.
3) Warm clothes, sleeping bag and mat: Warm fleece and jumper, thermal underwear, good socks, woolly hat and gloves, sleeping bag and mat (thermal) are MANDATORY !
Sleeping bags should be designed for 0 degrees Celsius.
4)   Hat, UV Protection Sunglasses and High Protection Sunscreen:
When sunny, it is burning! Carry a spare pair of glasses.
5) Spare glasses/Contact lenses and lens-cleaning solution:
If you wear optical glasses or lenses.
It might be a good idea to take binoculars.
6) Photo camera: It is important that your camera is carried in a comfortable and safe way in your day pack (point 8). We recommend to take a belt bag.
7) Valuables: Take a small padlock to lock your valuables in your bag. Take two padlocks if you ant to leave any valuables like passport, tickets etc. in Ulaan Baatar.
8) Saddle bags : available
Your daypack contains everything you need for the day and should be as light as possible.
At least :
a)   Rain gear
b) Sunglasses and sunscreen
c)  Fleece/jumper (for changing weather)
d) Water bottle
(min. 1 litre;
we recommend 2 litre, especially on hot days !)
e)  IODINE-based water purification tablets
f) Snacks (ex. dried fruits, since fruits are not available), nuts
g)  Pocket knife
h) Medical kit: band aids, disinfectant, bandage, insect repellent
i)  Tissues/toilet paper
9) Medication: We recommend to take the following items:
a) Antibiotic
b)   Band-aids, bandage, plaster, pins
c) Elastic band for sprung ankle
d)  Antiseptic and disinfectant wound cream
e) Insect repellent
f) Cream in cases of strains
g) Vitamin C and other cold/flu medication
h) Diarrhoea or constipation medication and oral rehydration solution
i) Aspirin for pain and fever
j) Scissors and foot scraping instrument
k) Any special medication you are taking
10) IODINE-based water purification tablets or filter : 
Are MANDATORY to fill up your bottles !
11) Book, Games/Cards, song book:
For social and waiting times. Anything that is small/light will come in handy.
12) Riding: We recommend:
a)   Gloves (thin, strong and non-slippery)
b) Riding helmet or the like (ex. bicycle helmet)
c) c) String for glasses
13)   Gifts for Nomadic People: As a custom, local nomads may invite you for tea and snacks. Unless money is asked for, it would be insulting to offer your host a cash payment. Hospitality is the rule of the steppes!
However, small gifts are always appreciated:
a)   Pens, paper and notebooks for the children (Do not give sweets!)
b) Sewing kits/needles (with large eyes)
c) Candles
d) Scissors
e) Pocket knife
f) Hairbrush and ribbons
g) Postcards
h) Tooth brush, tooth paste, soap (bio-degradable packing)
 
Note: There is no garbage collection in the National Park. To avoid the garbage problem, you can offer your gift without wrapping and carry the packing back to camp Toilogt. We thank you for supporting the protection of the environment.

 

14) Other
a)   A rope/clothes-line comes in handy for hanging up clothes.
